Reading through this topic, it has made me realise one very important thing...
There are 2 different types of "Film maker".
There is the CREATIVE side, (The writers, the directors), and then there is the TECHNICAL side, (The camera people, Sound engineers, Editors).
Before you think about "Making" a film, you have to decide what type of person you are.
If you are/want to be a technical person, then asking for people to write a script and direct you is fine.
If you are a writer, then you can go about WRITING the film, then look for a CREW to help you produce it.
So before you try to rip into anyone on here, realise that they may not WANT to be a writer or director. Their talent may be in the editing chair!

No wonder I'm so messed up then ... I took one of those 'character tests' and I was diagnosed as creative *and* technical. That could explain why I want to do everything myself ...

NF Tyler - you're expecting too much from people... I understand exactly where your coming from (The Michael Bay Hater's Club!)
When I've been making my shorts (films), I tend to do everything (writing/shooting/editing/etc.) - but people do work differently.
Okay here goes my personal example. I've just started working for a web development company, now I've been designing websites for years, I do all the coding behind them, all of the graphics, everything!
Once I started at the web-development company things were very, very different!
There are about 20 people doing one person's job! content designers/ graphic designers/ management/HTML coders/technical coders... the lot!
things move slower, but it's more professional (a different style than what I'm used to)
what am I saying... feck it (who cares), just do what you gotta do!
FFM: make some stupid short with your kid-cousin dressed up as Monkey - running up and down the street shouting "BANANAS!"
now thats a short film I'd like to watch!

Hey FutureFilmMan! Well, I'm sure you're having fun watching people argue about the decline of modern cinema and not answer your question, so maybe I can help you. I am assuming that you're a teen (like myself) so I'm gonna add some "age appropriate" advice. (I know that phrase is corny, but what can I say http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif ) I'm making a feature length film with my friends and I'm gonna enter it into a festival. Lost of festivals take feature length stuff. If you're american or canadian go to: http://www.greenlightfilm.org to get info on their festival (I don't know if they've updated their site yet) So, just use your feature ideas and write them. It will save you a lot of time thnking of ideas. Good ideas take a LONG time coming sometimes, trust me. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

Listen futurefilmguy don't ever ask for film ideas, a film-maker is a writer b4 anything else. If you can't write story you can't create a film. If your stuck don't worry it will pass.

NO!! A film-maker is not a writer!! A film-maker is a STORYTELLER using the language of film.
(it does help being able to write your own stuff though)

and if you can't write stories your our just technical and not creative. It's just like Robert Rodriguez said, "...be both creative and technical and your unstoppable". Unfortuntly if your not creative, which I think is about 90% of making movies you'll never be noticed, you'll just be "the camera guy or what ever".
